A director of strategic partnerships cultivate and manages key relationships for organizations across the for-profit and non-profit sectors. They are connectors, leaders and entrepreneurs who leverage their networking skills and develop strategies to increase revenue for their companies.
Needless to say, a director of strategic partnerships needs exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills. They also need to be organized, strategic, and strong negotiators. Their responsibilities include developing and maintaining revenue-producing business relationships, identifying opportunities for new partnerships, and building their organizational network through targeted outreach. They also negotiate contracts, conduct analysis and financial tracking of strategic partner initiatives, conduct market research and monitor changes in legal regulations.
To get to this director-level position, a master’s degree in business administration or a related field is recommended, plus at least 7 years of experience in business development, sales or account management. Jobs for top executives are projected to increase 6% by 2028.
