Esports Business Development Manager
Competitive gaming continues to gain mainstream popularity, with esports viewership projected to increase to 646 million by 2023 – and investors and brands are taking notice. Global esports revenues have had staggering year over year growth since 2018, with $822.4 million (three-quarters of the total market) coming from media rights and sponsorship.
Esports business development managers help grow a company’s revenue through strategy development, sponsorships and collaborations, spearheading initiatives and much more. They are connectors, analyzers and entrepreneurs who use their business acumen, networking skills, and knowledge of the esports universe to develop and build valuable commercial relationships with prospective partners at senior levels.
These professionals develop and execute on partnership/collaboration opportunities with esports teams, brands, and third-parties across retail, marketing, in-game integration, and live event activations. They need to be able to own the full sales process from initial outreach through to closing out high value commercial deals – so presentation, sales and negotiation skills are critical.
To excel in this position, a master’s degree in marketing or management is recommended, as well as 5+ years of experience in strategy, management consulting, sales, and/or business development. Experience in the esports, sports, gaming, or entertainment industries is definitely a plus!
