Forest Fire Inspector and Prevention Specialist

Forest fire inspectors and prevention specialists manage potential fire risks in our outdoor spaces. They are detail-oriented and meticulous because this role requires a keen eye. They also need to grasp a number of possible outcomes and be prepared for each one. They are analyzers, thrill-seekers and humanitarians that work to achieve and maintain safe conditions in our forests and wildlands.

They inspect forests for fire hazards and recommend forest fire prevention or control measures, report forest fires and weather conditions, train wildland firefighters, and enforce fire regulations. Forest fire inspectors and prevention specialists have one of the highest injury rates of all occupations, as working at the scene of a fire can be extremely dangerous. Those in this role possess strong physical stamina and usually have experience serving as firefighters or EMTs. Jobs for this role are expected to grow 24% by 2029.
