Immigration consultants oversee and smooth out the immigration process for people relocating to new countries. They are connectors, analyzers and organizers who give potential residents the support they need to confidently navigate the complex administrative and legal waters of the immigration process.

Immigrant consultants must be organized, analytical, and excellent communicators. They must also have strong reading and writing comprehension, and good time-management and interpersonal skills. Their responsibilities include advising clients on visa and work permit requirements, assisting with completing and submitting paperwork to relevant immigration offices. They also refer clients to an immigration attorney or translator when necessary.

Whether employed at a firm that specializes in immigration law or as a consultant, these professionals must be experts in immigration laws and regulations. A certificate or associate degree in paralegal studies with coursework in immigration law, political science, or sociology is recommended. Based on similar professions, job growth for immigration consultants is expected to increase around 6% between 2018 and 2028.
