Motion designers, also called motion graphics designers, are artists who help bring new dimensions to our entertainment. They use computer programs to add special effects and animation to movies, music videos, advertisements and mobile apps.
They are creators, innovators, and makers that can visualize a project’s potential before even designing it. Motion graphic design is a subset of graphic design that uses animation, so knowledge of both 2D and 3D drawing skills is essential. They create models and storyboards for clients and edit based on feedback to make sure they get the look of a project just right. Motion graphics designers are the masterminds behind what catches our eye and the reason we are able to quickly engage with content.
Most employers look for candidates with at least a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field. Jobs for this role are competitive and are expected to grow 4-6% by 2028.
