Search engine optimization (SEO) specialists are search marketing strategists that ensure Internet users can easily find their company’s or clients’ websites. They are analyzers, connectors and competitors who optimize sites and conduct marketing initiatives that are favorable to online search engines. Ideally, a fully optimized site will translate to increased web traffic and customer engagement.

Their primary duties include monitoring and analyzing web metrics, as well as target market data, to better understand user intent and customer needs. They also manage marketing activities like paid ad placement and affiliate programs, set up analytics tools, and work web developers to enhance site design to engage customers and focus on conversion rates.

SEO specialists must be extremely analytical, as well as have a broad range of technical skills including programming, database management, data mining software, and marketing software like Google AdWords. They typically have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, computer science, or IT, and work in a variety of industries, from tech to marketing firms.
