Songwriters turn our shared experiences with the world into music we can enjoy anytime and anywhere. They are creators, entertainers and contributors that can both write from the heart and write someone else’s story.
Though songwriters usually perform their own work, not all of them pursue solo careers. They can work alone or on teams behind another artist. They are creative, empathetic, and adaptable. They can usually play an instrument (or many) and love to find new ways to get people to listen to the message they’re sharing.
While there are no technical requirements for professional songwriters, many learn how to play an instrument like guitar or piano early before getting a degree in music composition or a similar field. Jobs for this role are somewhat competitive and are expected to stay about the same rate of growth until 2028.
